The Microdat Twin Station Micro Cask Racker MCR-2H

The new Cask Racker (Filler) developed by Microdat (Leeds) is a semi automated cask filler to meet the demands of the growing microbrewer and the traditional small regional or family brewers.

The new Racker is a development from a twin station system based around a central column which houses the entire main services and controls. The whole unit is compact and built, pre-wired and wet tested prior to dispatch in the Microdat factory, making installation quick and easy.

In a world concerned with green issues the traditional counter pressure filling systems are not environmentally friendly as they use either sterile compressed air or CO2 to blanket the fill and thus constrain fobbing. The new Microdat system is based on a specially adapted peristaltic positive displacement pump system, which meters the beer into the cask via a special Microdat developed backpressure control valve. The beer flow is therefore gently processed into the cask to provide the perfect, quick, metered, black fill. The fill time for a firkin is 25 to 35 seconds and, once set, the fill times are always consistent. This is comparable with counter pressure filling at its best, and substantially quicker than unbalanced counter pressure, traditional jack backs and racking cocks. Beer loss for the new system is much lower than others, since there is almost no fob and very little spillage from the head.

The new system was designed from the outset for CIP and can be cleaned and drained effectively, with the flow through the Microdat head maintaining full CIP turbulent flow to clean both head and pipe work. The CIP system required is simple as you can supply the cleaning and rinse liquor from any available vessels.
