Microdat weather 2009 recession and are set to reach new heights in 2010.
Leeds based Microdat, supplier of equipment to the brewery and beverage industry have weathered the 2009 recession and enter 2010 on a high note. With the global recession threatening to close businesses throughout 2009, Microdat have spent the year regrouping internally, reinvesting and developing new products ensuring that 2010 is a record year.
New products have been successfully developed and launched throughout the year. Along with a new range of Cask Fillers and Washers specifically designed for the small brewery. Microdat have also launched a range of Hygienic Pumps from 10mm, 25mm, 40mm and 50mm bore, plus a One Trip Keg Filler and Drum Washer. Microdat have also expanded their bespoke engineering line with a specialist Carpet Tile Destacking Machine and Pallet Tray Handling System and Weigher for Johnson Matthey. Microdat have proven that they can take a job from concept, through full design to completion for any engineering purpose.
In October Microdat proudly displayed a full range of machines at the 2009 Drinktec expo in Munich, Germany. The 5 day expo not only generated numerous leads from the UK but many enquiries from abroad leading to Microdat’s first export sale of the new CW30 Cask Washer to Summit Brewery in Minnesota in the USA.
In December 2009 Microdat welcomed a new Non-Executive chairman to the Board, Roy Butcher. Roy brings over 15 years experience within the brewery sector having worked for Whitbread, Watney Mann & Truman and Guinness, with Finance, Sales and General Management roles. He retired as Group Chief Executive of the construction and distribution company, Clugston Group Limited in 2008. Roy is also Chairman of Barrett Steel Limited the £300 million Steel Distribution business based in Bradford. Roy brings experience and business knowledge to the Company and will help steer the development of Microdat in 2010 and beyond.
Microdat’s order book is already looking healthy for 2010 with orders from Moorhouse Brewery for a £1.2M contract for new 100 barrel brew house and packaging line, plus a £560 000 order from one of the worlds largest brewing companies for keg washing and filling equipment, Timothy Taylors have also ordered a new Cask Line Infeed Conveyor, and the Micro Brewery range see’s orders to Loose Cannon Brewer, Plain Ales and Leeds Brewery. 2010 is set to be a record year with MD Steve Midgley predicting sales in excess of £4 million.
Microdat are already in talks with several UK breweries to install brand new cask lines within the next 3 years. Plus Microdat has also recently secured a major export order to Ireland. With all the new projects Microdat have started a Recruitment drive to fill positions to support the new projects and ensure delivery times are met. Microdat are committed to development and sales in the New Year and with added investment are set to reach new heights in 2010.
